SEC Sees Opportunity to Fast-Track Crypto Regulations
The passage of the CLARITY Act has stalled in the Senate, and its failure may have an unexpected consequence for the crypto industry. Nate Geraci, an ETF expert, suggests that this could lead to President Trump's SEC moving forward with regulations under existing laws, effectively fast-tracking the industry.
Geraci notes that a new administration may undo some of these changes, but the rapid evolution of crypto may make it difficult to unwind them. 'But crypto moves at warp speed. Might be too late at that point,' he added.
The SEC is set to discuss new rules for crypto offerings, including an innovation exemption for tokenized securities. The proposed rule would establish a 'tailored offering' framework for crypto investment contracts, furthering the agenda of Reg Crypto, a plan to regulate cryptocurrencies and related services led by SEC Chair Paul Atkins.
Atkins has stated that the SEC is ready to address pressing issues in the crypto market without Congressional involvement. Brett W. Redfearn, President of Securitize, also called for regulators to act while lawmakers remain deadlocked.
