SEC Set to Vote on Crypto Asset Regulation Proposal
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is set to vote on a proposal for regulating crypto assets at an open meeting scheduled for August 14, 2026.
The proposed rules would create a tailored offering regime for certain investment contracts involving crypto assets, potentially giving eligible firms a pathway to raise capital in the U.S. without triggering full registration requirements.
The SEC's Division of Corporation Finance is leading the initiative, with staff members Jim Moloney, Sebastian Gomez Abero, Valian Afshar, Patrick Faller, John Fieldsend, and Irene Paik involved.
If approved, the proposal would begin a public-comment period that could last two to three months. A final rule would then establish more formal regulatory requirements for crypto businesses.
The SEC's consideration of the proposal comes as Senate leaders have scheduled a September 15 cloture vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which aims to provide a broader legal foundation for crypto market rules in the U.S.
