SEC Sets August 24 Deadline for Review of Nasdaq Bitcoin Index Options
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has set an August 24 deadline for written statements on its review of Nasdaq's proposed Bitcoin index options. This comes after CME Group petitioned for a full SEC review, arguing that these contracts are commodity swaps that fall under the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's (CFTC) exclusive federal jurisdiction.
The SEC initially approved the rule change in May, but CME's petition stayed this approval pending further order. The commission has accepted CME's jurisdictional challenge and will review it, leaving Nasdaq's Bitcoin index options unable to launch until a final decision is made.
