SEC Suspends Nasdaq's Bitcoin Options Approval Amid Regulatory Dispute
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has temporarily suspended Nasdaq's approval to list Bitcoin options after the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) raised concerns over regulatory authority.
CME argues that Bitcoin is a commodity rather than a security, which would mean products tied to it should primarily be regulated under the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)'s jurisdiction.
The SEC's decision places the proposed Bitcoin options product, known as QBTC, on hold while the agency's full commission reviews the matter.
