SEC to Act on Cryptocurrency Rules Without Congress
US Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Paul Atkins has signaled that the agency is prepared to establish rules for cryptocurrencies, even without Congressional approval of the CLARITY Act.
The CLARITY Act aims to provide a clearer framework for regulating digital assets by defining the responsibilities of US financial regulators. However, if Congress fails to pass this legislation, the SEC can use its existing authority to introduce cryptocurrency rules.
Atkins emphasized that while legislation remains the preferred outcome, the SEC is prepared to move forward with rulemaking if necessary. This highlights the ongoing efforts to provide greater regulatory certainty for the US digital asset industry.
