SEC to Discuss Proposed Rules for Crypto Investment Contracts at Open Meeting
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is set to hold an open meeting on Friday to discuss proposing new rules for a tailored offering regime covering crypto investment contracts. This move aligns with Chair Paul Atkins' vision for Reg Crypto, or Regulation Crypto Assets.
The proposed rules would establish a safe harbor for crypto startups, exempting them from registration requirements and providing a framework for fundraising and investment contract exemptions. The SEC's Division of Corporation Finance has scheduled the meeting, which will take place at 10:00 AM ET and be open to the public via webcast.
The meeting comes as the Clarity Act faces a delay in the Senate and failed to pass before the August recess. SEC Chair Paul Atkins recently stated, 'We're ready, willing and able to come out with rules that address the same issues in the Clarity Act and other aspects of the crypto market.'
