SEC to Set Crypto Rules Amid Congressional Stalemate, Russia Opens Retail Trading
The SEC is set to vote on tailored crypto offering rules this Friday, as the US Congress stalls on passing the CLARITY Act. The proposed regulations aim to provide a clearer framework for crypto issuers and investors. Meanwhile, Russia's central bank has announced plans to open regulated crypto trading to retail investors, with Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Tether (USDT) being the only allowed assets.
The proposed Russian framework would limit retail access to these three assets, but Russians would still be able to use them for cross-border deals. This move could make Russia one of the largest economies to formally channel retail money into crypto markets.
Cryptocurrency prices have been drifting, with Bitcoin slipping below $63,500 and Ethereum trading near $1,862. The price swings are being absorbed by corporate treasuries, which are treating unrealized losses as a cost of doing business. This signals a new era for balance sheet strategy in the crypto space.
