Sei Labs Prepares for Quantum Threats with Gradual Security Upgrade
Sei Labs has introduced SIP-5, a governance proposal that allows existing accounts on the Sei Network to adopt quantum-resistant cryptography without changing wallet addresses or balances.
The framework aims to preserve compatibility while improving long-term security and is designed to be implemented gradually over time, giving users ample time to prepare rather than rushing a network-wide upgrade.
According to Sei Labs, current post-quantum signature schemes are larger than existing cryptographic signatures, which increases bandwidth requirements and reduces transaction throughput across EVM-based blockchains.
The team is exploring additional cryptographic innovations that could improve efficiency without reducing security.
