The US Senate is moving to advance the Clarity Act, a proposed framework for regulating cryptocurrencies. The bill aims to establish clear rules for determining when digital tokens should be classified as securities or commodities and clarify the responsibilities of federal regulators.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has filed to set up a key procedural vote on the legislation, which could pave the way for a full Senate vote in mid-September. The bill currently needs the support of at least eight Democrats in addition to all voting Republicans in the Senate.

Democrats are seeking additional safeguards and restrictions related to cryptocurrency activities by government officials, which remains an unresolved issue. If passed, the Clarity Act would mark another major crypto policy win for President Donald Trump and the digital asset industry.
