Senate Calendar Cut Shortens Odds for CLARITY Act Passage
The US Senate's revised calendar has reduced voting days in September from 16 to 8. This development may complicate the passage of the CLARITY Act, which aims to split oversight of digital assets between the SEC and CFTC.
SEC Chair Paul Atkins had pointed to a September 15 Senate vote as a critical date for the bill's progress. Crypto markets had been eagerly awaiting this date, with some even speculating that it could lead to significant gains in Bitcoin price (BTC).
The CLARITY Act would ban US government officials and their spouses from holding or promoting crypto, including President Trump. It also seeks to provide a clear regulatory framework for the industry.
The House passed its version of the bill in July 2025 by a wide margin, but Senate committees have written their own text that still needs to be merged with the House bill.
