Senate CLARITY Act Vote Looms as Crypto Industry Awaits Outcome
The US Senate is set to vote on the CLARITY Act on September 15, a crucial step in determining whether the bill will become law. The legislation aims to provide a framework for the crypto market, including definitions of securities and commodities, registration requirements, and anti-money laundering measures.
With 60 votes required for cloture, the Democratic Party's support is seen as essential to pass the motion to proceed. However, no Democratic senator has publicly committed to supporting the motion yet.
The bill has undergone significant revisions since its introduction, with over 114 amendments proposed by Democrats incorporated into the latest draft. Despite this progress, disagreements remain on key issues such as stablecoin rewards and enforcement provisions.
Patrick Witt, executive director of the White House Digital Asset Advisory Council, has warned that failure to pass the bill could close Congress's current legislative window and leave the US without a federal crypto market framework.
