The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act is set to face a crucial test in the U.S. Senate on September 15, when a cloture vote will determine whether the bill can move forward.

The bill aims to create a broader federal framework for digital asset markets, but its path to passage is far from certain.

Senate rules require 60 votes to invoke cloture, and while the bill has advanced from the Senate Banking Committee in a bipartisan vote, it still lacks sufficient support among Democrats.

CFTC Chair Michael Selig has indicated that the agency will take steps under existing authority if the bill stalls, including policing fraud and manipulation in spot digital commodity markets and regulating derivatives within its jurisdiction.
