Senate Delay Stymies Crypto Prices as Regulators Cast Doubt
Crypto prices took a hit as the US Senate delayed debate on the CLARITY Act, a bill aimed at clarifying crypto regulation between the SEC and CFTC.
The delay added to regulatory uncertainty, causing a sharp drop in cryptocurrency values. Bitcoin fell by about 3.2% to $76,010, with most major coins following suit due to reduced odds of the bill advancing.
The vote was initially expected to require only 51 votes to proceed, but support waned, necessitating the 60-vote threshold.
Investors are also bracing for an expected Federal Reserve rate hike, which is set to take place the following day. This added risk compounds market volatility and has led to increased investor caution.
