Senate Delays CLARITY Act Amid Prioritization of Russia Sanctions Package
The Senate's consideration of the CLARITY Act has been temporarily delayed as lawmakers prioritize a Russia sanctions package and other legislative business. This delay is largely procedural, rather than policy-related, according to Senate Majority Leader John Thune.
Thune has given priority to the Russia sanctions legislation, which can only move through the chamber at one time under Senate rules. Additionally, available floor time has been reduced due to memorial proceedings and other business.
SEC Chair Paul Atkins remains optimistic that Congress will pass the CLARITY Act, citing its importance in providing long-term regulatory certainty for the crypto industry. He emphasized that a clear statute from Congress would provide the strongest foundation for future-proofing crypto regulation in the US.
President Trump has the constitutional authority to call an extraordinary session of the Senate to vote on the SAVE AMERICA ACT and the CLARITY ACT, as per Article II, Section 3. However, this authority is not a guarantee that the bills will be passed.
