Senate Delays Crypto Bill Vote Until September 15
The US Senate has delayed its vote on the Digital Asset Market Structure Clarity Act until September 15, 2026. This means that the crypto industry will have to wait another three weeks for Congress to pass legislation regulating digital assets. The bill, which cleared the House with a bipartisan margin of 294-134 in July 2025, aims to establish clear jurisdictional boundaries between the SEC and CFTC when it comes to digital assets.
The Senate's decision to delay the vote has sparked concerns among market participants, with Bitwise warning stakeholders to prepare for potential short-term volatility. Industry lobbyists, however, remain optimistic, citing the House vote as a validation of their strategy in building bipartisan support for market structure legislation.
The sticking points in the bill center on ethics provisions tied to political figures' crypto-related activities and regulatory definitions covering stablecoins and law enforcement authority. These issues have created friction among lawmakers, making it difficult to reach the 60-vote threshold required for passage.
