Senate Democrats' Blockade Threatens Fate of CLARITY Act

Share

The White House's crypto adviser, Patrick Witt, has criticized Senate Democrats for stalling progress on the CLARITY Act. The legislation aims to clarify jurisdictional boundaries between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

Witt pointed out that Chuck Schumer and some pro-crypto Democrats had pulled out all stops to block a procedural vote on the bill before the August recess. The Senate missed its pre-summer deadline, leaving it with low chances of passing in September.

Republican John Thune has now filed a motion to schedule a critical procedural vote on the Clarity Act immediately following the August recess. This is crucial for keeping the 2026 passage prospects alive for the bill.
