Senate Democrats Hold Last-Minute Meeting Ahead of Crucial Crypto Vote

Share

Senate Democrats are holding a last-minute caucus meeting on Sunday evening to discuss the Clarity Act ahead of a crucial procedural vote scheduled for Tuesday. The bill, which aims to shape the cryptocurrency market structure, has been months in the making but still faces several major disagreements among lawmakers.

The Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is convening the meeting as lawmakers continue trying to resolve issues surrounding the landmark legislation. A group of roughly a dozen Democratic senators has spent months negotiating over the bill, but several major issues remain unresolved.

One key obstacle is stricter conflict-of-interest restrictions, which Democrats are pushing for. The Senate Banking Committee previously advanced the legislation in May in a bipartisan 15-9 vote, and a fresh version of the roughly 630-page bill was unveiled on Thursday.
