Senate Democrats Introduce Anti-Corruption Bureau Amid Crypto Scrutiny
Senate Democrats have introduced legislation to create an independent Anti-Corruption Bureau, aimed at investigating and prosecuting corruption within the executive branch. The proposed bureau would have subpoena, enforcement, oversight, and reporting powers, as well as the ability to pursue recovery of funds tied to corrupt conduct involving presidents, senior officials, campaign figures, and major government contractors.
The bill, introduced by Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, would also allow private plaintiffs and state attorneys general to sue in the name of the United States. This move comes amidst ongoing negotiations over the CLARITY Act, a broad crypto bill designed to define market rules and agency roles.
Donald Trump's family crypto ventures have become a central issue in these talks, with estimated proceeds from crypto ventures near $620 million. The proposed bureau would receive funding through a dedicated Freedom From Influence Fund, aimed at protecting the agency from presidential budget pressure.
