Senate Democrats Propose Anti-Corruption Bureau Amid Trump Crypto Income Scrutiny
Pressure is mounting in Washington over concerns about President Donald Trump's crypto-related income. Senate Democrats are pushing for a new enforcement proposal, the Anti-Corruption Bureau Creation Act, which would establish an independent federal agency to investigate and enforce anti-corruption laws.
The bill aims to address allegations that Trump has profited from his family's cryptocurrency ventures, including World Liberty Financial (WLF), which is linked to several token sales. According to recent financial disclosures, Trump earned over $65.6 million from the sale of WLF Holdco equity and $236 million in token-sale proceeds.
The total estimated crypto-related income for the Trump family is around $620 million, including World Liberty Financial token sales, a memecoin, NFTs, and a stake in a Bitcoin mining firm. Senate Democrats argue that this raises concerns about presidential conflicts of interest and want to restrict presidents from profiting from digital assets while in office.
The legislation would empower regulators to trace and recover potentially corrupt profits, allowing private plaintiffs and state attorneys general to sue to recover money allegedly obtained through corruption by presidents, senior officials, campaign figures, and major contractors.
