Senate Democrats Scramble Ahead of Crucial Crypto Legislation Vote
Senate Democrats are convening an emergency caucus meeting to discuss the Clarity Act ahead of a crucial procedural vote on Tuesday. The vote, which will determine whether the landmark cryptocurrency market structure bill can move forward to broader Senate consideration, has been shrouded in uncertainty due to ongoing disagreements among lawmakers.
A group of around a dozen Democratic senators has spent months negotiating over the bill, but key issues remain unresolved. Among them are Senators Kirsten Gillibrand, Mark Warner, Ruben Gallego, Lisa Blunt Rochester, Andy Kim, and Angela Alsobrooks, who have been involved in discussions led by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
The legislation will require at least 60 votes to advance, with all Republican senators expected to back the measure. However, several Democratic senators would also need to support the procedural motion for it to pass. The main sticking point is stricter conflict-of-interest restrictions that Democrats are pushing for, which has stalled progress so far.
Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz confirmed that negotiations were continuing over the weekend ahead of Tuesday's vote. If successful, this would pave the way for the legislation to move toward full Senate consideration.
