Senate Eyes September Vote on Landmark Crypto Legislation
The US Senate is nearing a vote on its long-awaited cryptocurrency legislation, known as the CLARITY Act. Senate Majority Leader John Thune moved to set up a procedural vote for mid-September, indicating that Republicans think they can gather the necessary votes.
The legislation aims to provide the crypto industry with a comprehensive rulebook, clarifying when digital tokens are securities or commodities and which regulatory body would oversee them.
Crypto firms have welcomed the proposed law, believing it will increase adoption by offering legal clarity. However, some lawmakers remain skeptical about the bill's chances of passing before the midterm elections, citing concerns that the delay may make it difficult to reach a consensus.
