Senate Puts Crypto Regulation Bill on Backburner Until September
The Senate's failure to vote on a cryptocurrency regulation bill before its August recess has significantly reduced the chances of its passage, according to industry experts. The Clarity Act, which aims to create a regulatory framework for the sector, was expected to be voted on during the current session but will now be pushed back until September.
Despite remaining hopeful that the measure can still clear the Senate when lawmakers return in September, Ian Katz, managing partner at Capital Alpha, believes that the odds have dropped significantly. 'I do think the odds drop in September,' he said. 'You just have a tight window. There aren't many legislative days. There's always other issues competing for attention.'
The Senate faces a lengthy to-do list when it returns next month, and Senate Republicans and crypto-friendly Democrats have yet to strike an agreement on an ethics provision that remains the central holdup in negotiations.
