Senate Set for Decisive Vote on Crypto Regulatory Framework
The Senate is set to hold a crucial vote on Tuesday to determine whether to move forward with the Clarity Act, a bill aimed at creating a federal regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies and other digital assets.
The measure has been stalled for months due to disagreements over ethics rules tied to President Donald Trump's crypto holdings and the treatment of stablecoins. However, Republican sponsors released revised text on Sunday and Monday that incorporates more than 120 Democratic requests.
Cyndi Lummis, a Wyoming senator and bill sponsor, stated that 'This text is truly bipartisan.' If the vote succeeds, it would require at least seven Democrats to join Republicans in support of the measure. The revised bill includes provisions related to ethics rules on federal officials, as well as a limited stablecoin compromise.
However, some groups remain unsatisfied with the proposal. The American Bankers Association and nearly 80 other banking groups have urged Senate leaders to demand further changes to the stablecoin language, arguing that it would undermine the economy.
