Senate Set to Vote on Cryptocurrency Regulation Amid Trump Investment Concerns
The US Senate is set to decide on Tuesday whether to move forward with legislation creating a new regulatory framework for cryptocurrency. The bill has been met with opposition from Democrats, who argue it doesn't do enough to rein in President Donald Trump's personal investments.
Trump has amassed significant wealth in the crypto sector since his reelection, including over $500 million in revenue from World Liberty Financial sales of crypto products. His family also has a controlling stake in the firm, which was co-founded with his special envoy Steve Witkoff.
Democrats are pushing for stronger ethics safeguards to prevent the president and his family from enriching themselves while in office. They want a requirement for Trump or any future president to divest if holdings reach a certain value.
