Senate Shelves CLARITY Act for Russia Sanctions Bill
The U.S. Senate has put the CLARITY Act on hold to prioritize the Russia sanctions bill, dealing a setback to crypto holders who were eagerly awaiting clarity on financial regulations.
The CLARITY Act had cleared key committee hurdles and gained endorsements from major financial institutions, including BlackRock, Fidelity, Goldman Sachs, Charles Schwab, and Grayscale. However, Senate Majority Leader John Thune's staff revealed that the Russia sanctions legislation is now the next priority.
This means that a vote on the CLARITY Act is unlikely before next week, leaving only a narrow window of floor time before the Senate enters its August 8 recess. Senator Cynthia Lummis had previously stated that missing this window could push crypto legislation to 2030.
The crypto community has voiced frustration over the delay, with some calling it 'legislative theater' and arguing that lawmakers are prioritizing other countries' affairs over American economic interests.
