Senate Shelves Crypto Bill for Russia Sanctions Package
The US Senate has temporarily put on hold consideration of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in favor of advancing federal appointments and legislation imposing penalties on Russia.
The shift in legislative priorities follows the confirmation of Jay Clayton as Director of National Intelligence, which diverted attention away from the crypto bill. The Senate's summer break begins August 8, leaving limited time for the Clarity Act to be advanced this session.
Negotiations between parties continue over regulations governing stablecoin interest payments and ethics language preventing high-ranking administration officials from endorsing cryptocurrency ventures. Despite support from prominent financial institutions like BlackRock, Fidelity, Goldman Sachs, Charles Schwab, and Grayscale, current projections place the bill's 2026 passage probability under 38%.
