Senate Shelves Crypto Regulation Bill, Institutional Investors Keep Buying
The US Senate has shelved its consideration of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act until at least September, leaving the crypto industry in limbo. The bill aims to settle a long-standing dispute over whether tokens on established blockchains are regulated as commodities or securities.
The delay is seen as significant because it means exchanges, custodians, and token issuers will continue to operate without clarity on regulatory requirements for at least another six weeks. Despite the uncertainty, institutional investors remain active in the market, with spot Bitcoin ETFs taking in $754.69 million over the past week.
The broader DeFi sector continues to shrink, with total value locked across decentralized-finance protocols falling by roughly 39% so far this year to around $70 billion. Stablecoins, however, remain one of the year's steadier growth stories, with total supply continuing to expand through 2026.
