Senate Sticks with Plan for CLARITY Act Vote Before August Recess
Senate Majority Leader John Thune has indicated that the Senate still plans to hold another procedural vote on the CLARITY Act before lawmakers leave Washington for their month-long August recess. The bill, which aims to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for the U.S. cryptocurrency industry, is currently absent from the Senate calendar and its inclusion in the schedule remains uncertain.
Thune acknowledged that the legislative agenda is packed and time is running out, but expressed confidence that the legislation will receive procedural consideration. 'I think market structure we'll get a vote on. Whether we can get on it or not, we'll see,' he said.
Crypto analyst Ted Pillows noted that the timeline for passing the CLARITY Act is becoming increasingly tight, with little room for delays if Senate leadership waits until Wednesday to file cloture. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has also intensified calls for Senate approval of the bill, describing it as 'common sense' legislation that could provide long-awaited regulatory clarity for the U.S. crypto industry.
