Senate Vote Decides Fate of US Digital Asset Regulation
Tomorrow, the US Senate will hold a crucial vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (H.R. 3633), which could determine who regulates digital assets in America for the next decade.
The bill, if passed, would give digital commodities a defined regulatory home under the CFTC, while assets that function like traditional securities stay under the SEC's jurisdiction.
This distinction is crucial for DeFi protocols and exchanges, which have been operating in a gray zone due to uncertainty about their governance tokens, liquidity provider tokens, or staking mechanisms being reclassified as unregistered securities.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has made his case for the bill, saying it's essential to ensure America wins the global race for new technology and that stablecoin infrastructure will be built in America.
