Senate Vote Looms for Crypto Regulation Bill Amid Trump Controversy
A landmark bill aiming to regulate cryptocurrency and digital assets in the US is set for a crucial vote in the Senate, despite controversy surrounding President Donald Trump's involvement with crypto ventures.
The Clarity Act, which includes additional guardrails to protect consumers, needs 60 votes to advance. Democrats are divided on the issue, with some insisting that the legislation address Trump's business dealings.
White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt said that the administration and Senate Republicans had worked to accommodate Democratic concerns.
However, Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) expressed their opposition, citing concerns about scams and Trump's alleged self-enrichment through crypto ventures. They claim that Trump made over $1 billion on such dealings last year while in office.
