Senate Vote Looms on Landmark Crypto Regulation Bill Amid Trump Venture Controversy
The US Senate is set to vote on a landmark bill that regulates cryptocurrency and digital assets. The Clarity Act, which has undergone revisions, aims to establish federal regulations for the largely unregulated world of crypto.
Lawmakers are divided over consumer protections and President Donald Trump's involvement in crypto ventures. Democrats are concerned about Trump's billions of dollars in earnings from such investments while in office.
White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt stated that the administration and Senate Republicans have accommodated Democratic concerns throughout negotiations.
However, not all Democrats support the bill, with Sen. Chris Van Hollen saying it 'masquerades as a way to create good regulation and protection for consumers' while Sen. Richard Blumenthal calling for stronger consumer protections to combat scams and Trump's alleged corruption and self-enrichment.
