The US Senate is set to vote on a bill that would create a new regulatory framework for cryptocurrency, but Democrats are pushing back due to concerns about President Donald Trump's investments in the sector.

President Trump has amassed significant wealth through his involvement with various crypto firms, including World Liberty Financial, which he co-founded with Steve Witkoff. According to his annual disclosure report filed with the Office of Government Ethics, Trump reported over $500 million in revenue from World Liberty Financial's sales of crypto products last year.

Democrats are calling for stronger ethics safeguards to prevent the president and his family from profiting from their investments while in office. Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren stated that 'we do not want to pass a crypto bill that will let Donald Trump continue to rake in billions of dollars in crypto profits while working families across this country struggle with higher prices and an economy that gets worse by the day.'
