Seneca Lake Residents Sound Alarm Over Planned AI Data Center

Karin Critchlow has fond memories of summers spent on Seneca Lake. Her family's land next to the lake in Dresden has been in their possession for over 70 years.

However, the tranquility they once enjoyed is disrupted by the Greenidge Generating Station, a cryptomining site just 500 yards away from their lake house. The noise from the power plant is so loud that Critchlow describes it as sounding like 'a truck coming down the back road'.

The company operating the generating station, Vulcan Infrastructure and Power (formerly Greenidge Generation), plans to convert its operation to a hyperscale AI data center. This pivot comes after the company's name change in July, highlighting its shift from cryptomining to AI and high-performance computing.
