Senior Crypto Adviser Departs Treasury Amid Stalled Legislation

Share

Tyler Williams, a senior digital asset adviser to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, left his post at the U.S. Treasury Department on July 31. He had been advising Bessent on digital assets and blockchain policy since February 2025.

Bessent called Williams 'instrumental' in advancing the administration's goal of making America a crypto capital. The CLARITY Act, which would establish federal rules for digital asset intermediaries, remains stalled due to lack of time and bipartisan support.

The Senate Banking Committee advanced the legislation by a 15 to 9 vote in May, but it has not received a scheduled procedural vote. The August recess leaves limited time for a procedural vote before lawmakers depart on August 10.
