September Sees $50M Move from Dormant Bitcoin Wallets
Dormant Bitcoin wallets have continued to stir in September, moving over $50 million worth of BTC. During the first five days of the month, a total of 626.74 BTC was transferred from sleeping wallets, with some transactions dating back as far as 2013.
One notable transfer occurred on September 5, when eight dormant wallets created in 2013 shifted 25 BTC each within 25 seconds of each other. The transfers appeared to be from the same entity, possibly one owner consolidating funds.
The majority of the transferred coins were sent to the crypto custodian Bitgo, with some also being sent to another address not flagged by Arkham Intelligence.
2013 wallets have been the biggest spenders in September so far, with 346.07 BTC spent across nine separate transfers. Another significant movement occurred on September 3, when three dormant wallets created in 2011 shifted 90.50 BTC worth $7.22 million.
