September Trap Looms as Bitcoin's Strong August Rally Raises Red Flags
Bitcoin's price movement in August has set up a potentially precarious situation for September. The cryptocurrency rallied strongly, with its price climbing from $64.7k to $78.3k. However, despite this impressive gain, market sentiment remained bearish, according to Santiment data.
The Sentiment Balance averaged only +32 in August, compared to +72 in July when Bitcoin traded at around $63k. This divergence between price action and sentiment has sparked concerns that a 'September trap' may be in play.
Furthermore, the ETH/BTC pair closed the month above its 20-month moving average, suggesting that Ethereum could be gaining momentum against Bitcoin. If this trend holds, it could put further pressure on Bitcoin's dominance, creating another headwind for BTC in September.
An analyst on X has even called for a short position on BTC, predicting that it could reach the $52k level before turning back up. While not everyone shares this view, the data points to more downside risks for BTC.
