SGX Gains CFTC Approval for US Institutional Access to Crypto Perpetual Futures
Singapore Exchange (SGX) has gained approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to allow US institutional investors direct access to its Bitcoin and Ether perpetual futures contracts.
The CFTC authorization was granted under Regulation 48.10, which allows foreign boards of trade to offer qualifying US participants direct access to their electronic trading systems.
SGX's Bitcoin perpetual futures (BTP) and Ether perpetual futures (ETP), both launched in November 2025, have already recorded $5.8 billion in cumulative volume, with an average daily volume of 1,300 lots or $19 million as of August.
According to KC Lam, SGX's head of crypto derivatives, the CFTC authorization represents 'an important milestone' that connects US traditional finance participants trading crypto futures with Asian liquidity pools.
