SGX Gets CFTC Green Light to Open Crypto Perpetual Futures to US Institutions
The Singapore Exchange (SGX) has received regulatory approval from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to allow American institutional investors to trade its Bitcoin and Ether perpetual futures directly.
This approval, under Regulation 48.10, marks a significant shift in the way U.S. money flows into Asian crypto markets. The move opens up new liquidity pools for Wall Street trading desks and legitimizes crypto derivatives as a regulated asset class.
SGX's Bitcoin and Ether perpetual contracts have processed $5.8 billion in cumulative traded volume since their launch in late November 2025, with daily average volume reaching around 1,300 lots or about $19 million. Bitcoin dominates activity, making up 66% of open interest and 83% of daily trading volume.
SGX uses margin calls and collateral top-ups instead of auto-liquidations when positions move against a trader. The exchange plans to launch dated futures and options for Bitcoin and Ether as its next product step.
