Sheikh Tahnoon Entity Holds 49% of World Liberty Financial's Proposed Crypto Bank
A Sheikh Tahnoon-backed entity reportedly holds 49% of WLTC Holdings, which is the holding company behind World Liberty Financial's proposed USD1 bank. This news comes as the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) granted World Liberty Trust Company preliminary conditional approval to launch a federally chartered national trust bank in August 2026.
The proposed bank would issue, redeem, and safeguard USD1, World Liberty Financial's dollar-backed stablecoin, under federal supervision. However, the preliminary approval is not final, and World Liberty Trust Company can only begin operations after meeting the regulator's pre-opening requirements and receiving final approval.
A report by The Wall Street Journal cited people familiar with the matter, stating that Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan and co-investors hold a 49% stake in WLTC Holdings. This investment is separate from an earlier reported $500M backing of World Liberty Financial in exchange for a 49% stake in the company.
