Shiba Inu Burn Spike Falls Flat Amid Massive Supply
Shiba Inu's recent 350% burn spike has been making waves in the crypto community, but experts say it's not as significant as it seems. The burn rate jumped over 350%, with around 12.47 million tokens removed in a day, and whale activity picked up alongside it. However, when compared to Shiba Inu's massive supply of 589 trillion tokens, this number is essentially negligible.
The real story here is that the burns are mostly psychological, waking sentiment without meaningfully cutting supply. The percentage may be impressive on paper, but it's a rounding error against such a large supply.
AlphaPepe, another cryptocurrency project, has pitched itself as a more coherent answer to Shiba Inu's burn mechanism. Its burn is designed to be fed by real product usage, fees from AlphaSwap activity, on a fixed one-billion-token supply rather than a quadrillion-scale float.
The logic behind AlphaPepe's burn is sound: on a small, fixed supply, a burn driven by genuine usage can actually matter. However, the project is still in its demo-stage, and it remains to be seen if its burn will actually connect usage to scarcity.
