Shiba Inu Burns Billions of Tokens Amid 1,395% Increase in Burn Rate
The Shiba Inu project celebrated its sixth anniversary on August 1, but instead of major announcements or updates, the team shared a message about the rise from 'zero to a global movement' and said that 'the experiment continues.'
However, the SHIB community has been burning tokens at an impressive rate, with July's burn rate increasing by 1,395% compared to June. The X account Shibburn reported that over 3.2 billion SHIB were transferred to a null address in July, permanently removing them from circulation.
This represents nearly $17,000 worth of tokens burned in July alone, but the core purpose of SHIB's burning mechanism is to reduce the token's supply and increase its value through scarcity. The team and community have been actively engaging in this process, with a significant amount being burned on just a handful of days towards the end of the month.
The meme coin project has seen a 10% price increase over the last 30 days, potentially propelled by the rising burn rate and certain whale activity. However, with over 585 trillion coins in circulation, the remaining amount is enormous, and the team and community may need to up their game to trigger a rally.
