Shiba Inu Developers Reaffirm Commitment Ahead of Sixth Anniversary
The Shiba Inu (SHIB) developers have reaffirmed their commitment to the project ahead of its sixth anniversary. In recent statements, they described the experiment as 'continuing' during a price surge.
SHIB has shown relatively strong momentum among top 30 tokens but has fallen 5.59 percent over the past week in a short-term correction. The price remains about 95 percent below its all-time high set in October 2021.
The project was launched on August 1, 2020, by an anonymous developer named Ryoshi as an Ethereum-based ERC-20 token. It issued 1,000 quadrillion SHIB and set up a liquidity pool on Uniswap. Half of the total supply was sent to Vitalik Buterin, with the intention of demonstrating decentralization.
The project drew little attention in its early months but gained interest in 2021 after Buterin burned 41 percent of the total supply and donated 50 trillion tokens, putting it in the market spotlight. The token's peak came in October 2021 when it surpassed Dogecoin (DOGE) by market capitalization.
However, the trend later reversed, and SHIB has posted relatively sluggish performance for over four years. Market participants have pointed to the large token supply, lack of clear real-world use cases, and saturation in the memecoin market as structural burdens for Shiba Inu.
