Shiba Inu Enters Japan's Elite List of Six Approved Cryptocurrencies
Shiba Inu (SHIB) has achieved a significant milestone in Japan by being included in an exclusive list of six approved cryptocurrencies on the Nomura-backed Laser Digital Japan platform. This comes after the platform's regulatory registration was approved by the Japanese Financial Services Agency (FSA) on August 21.
The listing lineup is surprisingly conservative, featuring only industry heavyweights like Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin alongside SHIB. SHIB's inclusion is possible due to its presence on the Japan Virtual and Crypto Assets Exchange Association's (JVCEA) 'Green List', which allows local platforms to list vetted tokens through a simplified procedure.
This institutional push follows retail adoption of SHIB across Japan earlier this year, with e-commerce giant Rakuten opening token trading to its 44-million-user ecosystem and 5 million merchant locations. The platform's initial focus will be on providing wholesale liquidity to local crypto platforms before opening trading access to corporations and investment funds.
