Shiba Inu Joins Bitcoin and Ethereum on Japan's Green List
Shiba Inu (SHIB) has become the first memecoin from a G7 country to receive recognition as an approved asset in Japan, joining Bitcoin and Ethereum on the Green List. The move was made possible after SHIB met the requirements set by Japanese regulators, including being listed on at least three JVCEA-registered exchanges and passing reviews of transparency and technological soundness.
The Green List is a whitelist run by the Japan Virtual and Crypto Assets Exchange Association (JVCEA), which oversees licensed crypto exchanges in Japan. The list now holds around 105 digital assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Litecoin, and Polygon. To be added to the list, tokens must meet specific benchmarks set by Japanese regulators.
SHIB's inclusion on the Green List comes as part of a larger regulatory shift in Japan. On July 15, 2026, the National Diet gave final approval to an amendment that reclassifies crypto assets from the Payment Services Act to the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act (FIEA). This move aims to bring crypto under the same regulations as stocks and bonds.
