Shiba Inu Surges 36%, Adds $1 Billion in Value Without Clear Catalyst

Shiba Inu (SHIB) made a surprising move on Sunday, surging approximately 36% to $0.0000057 and adding roughly $1 billion to its market capitalization. This significant increase came without any project announcement or network upgrade, leaving analysts searching for an explanation.

The broader meme coin market failed to match SHIB's explosive move, with Dogecoin (DOGE) gaining about 6% over the same period and several smaller tokens rising as much as 10%. The wide performance gap suggests the advance was concentrated in Shiba Inu rather than part of a broad-based rotation into dog-themed tokens.

The most prominent feature of the rally was the heavy concentration of trading volume on South Korean exchanges, particularly the SHIB/KRW pair on Upbit. This pairing generated about $62 million in volume, making it the token's largest individual trading market and accounting for more than a tenth of global turnover.
