Shiba Inu's $1 Dream Unlikely: Market Capitalization Would Need to Skyrocket
Shiba Inu (CRYPTO: SHIB) has seen its price plummet by 94% since its all-time high in 2021, when it recorded a staggering annual return of 45,278,000%. This astronomical gain was largely driven by speculation. Today, the token is trading at just $0.000005 per unit.
The broader crypto market remains depressed, with total market capitalization sitting at $2.8 trillion, significantly lower than its record high of $4.3 trillion set during the 2025 bull market. Bitcoin, considered the bellwether of the crypto industry, is still 38% below its peak.
Shiba Inu has no meaningful real-world utility driving organic demand for the token, with only 1,219 businesses globally accepting it as payment. The ecosystem carries a market capitalization of approximately $3 billion, based on over 589.2 trillion tokens in circulation and a current price of $0.000005.
A price of $1 per token would imply an implausible total market capitalization of $589.2 trillion, roughly eight times the combined value of all 500 companies in the S&P 500 index. This figure also represents approximately 19 times the annual output of the entire U.S. economy.
The Shiba Inu community has pursued a token-burning strategy to push the price higher over time. However, at an estimated burn rate of 4.6 billion tokens per year, eliminating enough supply to justify a $1 price would take an astonishing 128,000 years. Moreover, burning tokens does not create value; it merely redistributes it across fewer units.
