Shiba Inu's 36% Price Surge Sparks Warning Signs
Shiba Inu (SHIB) experienced a significant price surge on July 26, increasing by 36% and adding approximately $1 billion to its market capitalization in a single day. The rally was part of a strong week for the Ethereum-based memecoin, which remained up more than 21% over the past seven days at the time of publication.
According to blockchain analytics firm Santiment, the surge coincided with a sharp increase in whale activity, with 52 transactions worth at least $100,000 recorded on July 26. This was the highest daily total since March 31, suggesting larger holders were selling into the price surge as retail interest accelerated.
Santiment argued that the rally showed classic signs of profit-taking by large holders rather than the start of a sustained breakout. The firm noted that whales appeared to have sold into strength, while retail traders entered the market after much of the rally had already played out.
