Shiba Inu's Futures Net Flow Surge Overhyped by +3,402% Metric Flaw
The recent surge in Shiba Inu's futures net flow has sparked attention, but its significance is being overstated. The +3,402% increase is largely due to the metric's calculation method rather than a massive influx of capital.
Net flow is the sum of future inflows and outflows, which can be very small when nearly equal. A subsequent increase in this net value can result in a huge percentage change, even if the actual amount is modest.
In the case of Shiba Inu's futures, the 12-hour reading was actually negative due to $7.25 million in outflows exceeding $5.81 million in inflows. However, the eight-hour futures net flow was positive by about $142,120.
The spot activity also does not show significant evidence of a massive capital rotation. The one-hour spot net inflow was roughly $129,780, but this is just 0.010% of Shiba Inu's market capitalization.
