Shiba Inu's Price Surge Sparks Warning Signs
Shiba Inu (SHIB) experienced a significant price surge on July 26, increasing by 36% and adding approximately $1 billion to its market capitalization in just one day. However, this rally was short-lived as the price quickly fell back some of its gains.
The increase in SHIB's value marked a strong week for the Ethereum-based memecoin, which has been largely driven by internet culture and community sentiment.
According to Santiment Intelligence on X, the rally coincided with a sharp spike in whale activity. The firm recorded 52 transactions worth at least $100,000 on July 26, the highest daily total since March 31. This suggests that larger holders were selling into the price surge as retail interest accelerated.
Santiment stated that this behavior is 'classic' and indicated profit-taking by large holders rather than a sustained breakout. The firm also noted that social dominance reached its highest point in over three months, but it was already at its peak when the breakout started to fizzle out.
