Shield AI Seeks New Funding to Reach $20 Billion Valuation
Shield AI, a San Diego-based defense technology company, is in talks to secure a new funding round that would value it at $20 billion or more. This projected valuation represents a significant increase of around 60% from its post-money valuation of $12.7 billion following a $2 billion Series G round closed in March 2026.
The company's rapid growth is driven by its proprietary autonomy software platform, Hivemind, which enables drones and aircraft to operate without relying on GPS. Shield AI has already seen significant success with this technology, as evidenced by the US Air Force's award of a production contract in June 2026 to integrate Hivemind into its Collaborative Combat Aircraft program.
The company is also developing the X-BAT, a more advanced combat aircraft designed for autonomous swarms. Additionally, Shield AI has signed licensing agreements with L3Harris and Polish defense firms PGZ and WZL-2 to explore development and distribution opportunities.
